I am certain many of you have hope, dreams, goals, and even questions for this school year as we look to reopen in the COVID-19 era. Parents, you should know that we sincerely miss our students. The abrupt end to the 2019-2020 school year left us all feeling a bit empty and unfulfilled. Although I cannot say for certain what this year will look like in its entirety, I want you to know that we are fully committed to keeping our teachers and students safe by following the recommendations of the Shelby County Health Department and the guidelines of our district as outlined in the Collierville Schools Reopening and Recovery Plan . When students return to school on August 17, they will return to a school environment which will look very different from when we were last together in March. Our staff is committed to making every effort to ensure the safety, academic success, and emotional well-being of our students. Parents and supporting family members are crucial partners in this effort. We will need your support more than ever. We ask that every individual who enters our building understand and respect that we are required to follow the rules that have been set by the Shelby County Health Department, Collierville Schools, and the Governor’s Office. As a result, the following rules will apply: · All students and staff will be required to wear a facial covering except during designated break times such as lunch. · Social distancing will be utilized in the building to the extent feasible (i.e., floor markings to illustrate social distancing, one-way traffic areas/stairs, etc.). · Classroom instructional space must be set up so students are 6ft apart. · All students riding a bus are required to wear a facial covering. · Student drivers are not permitted to congregate in the high school parking lots. · Nonessential visitors will not be permitted in the building, classrooms, hallways, or at lunch. · All essential visitors must enter through the attendance office and wear a facial covering at all times in the building. The Collierville Schools Reopening and Recovery Plan includes instructional options for hybrid and virtual learning. Parents and students should also review the CHS Orientation Document which was emailed to parents by way of Blackboard Connect on August 10, 2020. In addition, I encourage parents to visit the Collierville Schools webpage for more information about Positive COVID-19 Case in the School-Protocol and Procedure . Parents, please know that we sympathize and empathize with all of our families and their unique circumstances as we all navigate the uncertainty of COVID. I ask that you also understand educators are being asked to pivot and educate in a manner which is the antipode of a traditional teaching structure. Our plan will not be perfect from the onset and will surely require us to make changes to meet the academic needs of our students as we progress throughout the school year. We need your support, understanding, and grace more now than ever. As I stated previously, I do not know if or when COVID will have an impact on our plans as it relates to school closure; however, I am confident that we can get through this together. In the interest of being optimistic, I will personally consider each day without a new case of coronavirus as a victory with the hope of returning back to normal. Again, I thank you for your support.
